Más nevek: Bromeliad
Guzmania is a tropical bromeliad perennial plant known for its bright and colorful inflorescences.
Basic info
Guzmania lingulata is a tropical bromeliad native to the rainforests of Central and South America. It features a rosette of long, lance-shaped, glossy green leaves. Its inflorescence is funnel-shaped and brightly colored in shades of red, orange, or yellow, making it a popular ornamental plant. Guzmania can grow as an epiphyte or terrestrially and prefers moderate light conditions, thriving best in partial shade.
The plant typically grows between 30 and 60 cm in height and 20 to 40 cm in width. It has a moderate growth rate and, as a perennial, can decorate homes or tropical gardens for many years. Blooming occurs from May to September, during which it requires regular watering and a humid environment.
Care for Guzmania requires moderate attention, especially maintaining adequate humidity and temperature. It should be kept above 15°C in winter and protected from frost. Pruning is minimal, mainly removing dead leaves and spent flowers. Propagation is commonly done by separating offsets, which is relatively easy.

Environment needs
Care
Guzmania prefers a bright, partially shaded location, avoiding direct sunlight. It grows best in loose, well-draining, slightly acidic soil. Water regularly but avoid waterlogging. Misting the leaves helps maintain humidity. In winter, reduce watering and keep temperatures above 15°C.
Propagation
Propagation is mainly by separating offsets after flowering. Carefully detach the offsets from the mother plant and pot them separately. Seed propagation is possible but slower and more difficult.
Diseases & pests
Guzmania is susceptible to root rot caused by overwatering and may attract aphids. Good ventilation and proper watering practices are important.

Safety
Guzmania is non-toxic to humans, dogs, and cats, and is not allergenic.
Ecology
In its native tropical rainforest habitat, Guzmania grows as an epiphyte and plays a role in the ecosystem by providing nectar for insects and hummingbirds.
Usage
Primarily used as an ornamental plant indoors and in tropical gardens or balconies. Its striking colorful flowers make it a popular houseplant.
